Alan Corsa (1982)

Alan Race (1982)

The Campagnolo Super Record group is always noteworthy, especially on an Alan frame full of charm, then everything is questionable and subjective. Its realization can have different purposes, a simple ride pedaling the emotions of the past, or even being able to participate in type events (Eroica, Dauntless, Dusty, etc.) but it would be a shame to ruin it, perhaps it could even set up the window of a shop !

The conditions

We can say that overall it was in good general condition, or as they say in the jargon, a good starting point. The frame, the joints and some components showed normal signs of aging, except for the brake levers (see photo) with evident smears (we will see the arrangement later) as always, complete disassembly of all components and we start the work.

The Restoration

Repainting and polishing of joints

Logically, it is recommended to first polish the joints and then repaint the frame. This is to avoid touching the repainted parts and damaging them especially with abrasive rotors.

The stages of restoration

Thus both brake levers appeared, with abrasions and evident smears. Of course, as new they can never come back, but with patience and the right tools, they can look much better again.

Revised and polished rear derailleur and front derailleur.

Overhauled, polished and replaced the brake pads.

The details

If you are wondering, what are the items below and what are they for? There are two reasons for their use, the first is that the sheath remains stationary while driving, consequently the cable inside has less stress and flows better, the second is that it allows you to have an almost perfect symmetry of the two sheaths, even the eye wants its part.

Two examples of what is meant by sheath guide and aesthetic effect. Then you judge.

The result

This is the final result of a total restoration. Many ask, how much does a job like this cost? What I can tell you is that beyond the cost of materials (painting, components, etc.) the part that affects the most are the hours of labor, all the polished components are handmade one by one (maybe it was enough to put components in the dishwasher)
